Institution Profile
The University of Malaya (in Malay: Universiti Malaya) is a public research university located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is one of the top 100 universities in the world, ranked 70th by QS World University Rankings 2020. It is also the oldest university in Malaysia and is the highest ranking Malaysian institution of higher education according to several international ranking agencies.
University of Malaya was established on 8th October 1949 as the result of the merging of King Edward VII College of Medicine (1905) dan Raffles College (1928). At that time, University of Malaya plays an important role in producing skilled and competent graduants in Malaya and Singapore, consequently Malaysia.
University of Malaya has been named as the top 4 research universities in Malaysia and it is the pioneer in research fields. As a result of the increase in research and consultation funds, University of Malaya has formed Institut Pengurusan Penyelidikan dan Perundingan (IPPP) in 2000 (later named as Institut Pengurusan & Pemantauan Penyelidikan in 2009) to manage all research activities and consultancy activites in order to better promote the research results.
