Institution Profile
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) was established on 18th May 1970 and it is the third university established in Malaysia after Universiti Malaya and Universiti Sains Malaysia. During its early established, UKM only has School of Islamic Studies (Fakulti Pengajian Islam) , Fakulti Sains (School of Science) and Fakulti Sastera, which is later renamed to Fakulti Sains Kemasyarakatan dan Kemanusian (School of Social Sciences and Humanities) in 1974.
UKM is born from the hope and aspiration of Malays, which had existed since 1930, whom had proposed on a unversity at a national level and uses Malay Language (Bahasa Melayu) as the communication medium during its establishment. This ambitious hope was achieved after the independence of Malaysia in effort to cope with the needs of the students whom had completed their secondary schools in pursuing their studies at a higher level.
